Pictured here (a hilarious snap by El at last years end of year celebrations!) is the person behind the text.. the puns.. the poor editing skills.. it's me, Aimee! I've been behind socials, newsletters and other comms throughout the year, all with the wonderful help of folks such as Symon, El and Tim and other active contributers.

I've loved my time supporting the club in this role.. particularly coming up with silly tangents! More importantly it's been an absolute privilege to be exposed to other parts of the club that I otherwise wouldn't have interacted with as much and work alongside other passionate club members. Unfortunately due to my work demands I'm not able to commit to this role next year, but my loss is another person's gain!

If you love getting creative, design, socials, marketing and bringing people together through the power of language; why not put your hand up for the role of communications at our AGM this Sunday. You won't regret it!

Hey you! Don't forget to swing by the clubrooms this Sunday with a plate for some lacrosse fun, lunch and our AGM.

If you are wondering about how you might be able to contribute to the club this coming year; here are some positions we'd love to fill (though there are plenty more roles available if these don't take your fancy!). Each role has an important function to help our club thrive, and means that it all doesn't fall to one person. So come, have a laugh and get to know some other members through collaboration and investing care in our wonderful club 😊

It's getting close to that time of the year where

It's getting close to that time of the year where we look to put our heads together, and come up with our governance and focus for the next year. We'd love to see as many Mavs as possible show up to this year's annual general meeting to hear your ideas for the future of our club, understand some of the back end tasks of keeping the club chugging along and to consider how we can band together to make small but mighty positive changes for our community.

There are heaps of formal roles available and ready to be filled, including volunteer and grants coordinator positions and an operations manager opportunity. We'd really appreciate anyone who is able to support the club in an ongoing capacity with these specific functions, and their attendance at regular committee meetings. It's a great opportunity to get to know other club members, try out something new and give back!

It's okay too if you don't think an ongoing role is something that's going to work for you next year. We get it, it's hard work! If you want to know more about how you might be able to dip your toes in and out to support the regular functions of the club, come along! Got an inspired idea? Particular passion project? You come along too!

Look forward to seeing many Mav faces there for some fun short games of lacrosse for all skill levels, a feed and a moment to focus on our future (which is bright and full of Olympic rings!) 🥍

Thank you @merri_bekcitycouncil for holding a day for the Fleming Park community to get together and celebrate the new facilities. It was a great day for all, with lively music, caffeine and activities throughout the day to celebrate the pocket of grassy field and multi purpose spaces we share.

Cheers to our members who came down, including some under 12 legends - and those that embraced the game and gave it a go for the first time! Our inner north hearts are filled with community spirit, comradery and oat milk based coffee 😉

@merri_bekcitycouncil will be hosting Fleming Park

@merri_bekcitycouncil will be hosting Fleming Park this Saturday, and we've agreed to do a come and try! We are really lucky to have new facilities thanks to the council - which has given us the space to be our social selves again, and for Ellie and other folks to cook up an industrial storm in the canteen! We'd love to see as many of you down there as possible to spread the Lacrosse love, lend a hand at the come and try, and get around the community.. maybe I'll see you on the bocce field or for a throw!

Whilst our sport has a relatively small following, we sure are a passionate bunch that support our community to grow overall. Luckily for us, this is a shared philosophy within the Victorian Lacrosse world - and means clubs can come together to support each others playing members to have a match in their respective leagues.

This year we had a really strong partnership with @elthamlax for our junior under 16 and under 18 boys teams, our U/12s linked up with @altonalacrosseclub for a tourney - and the mini Mavs struck purple with @wyndhamlacrosse for some games. Thank you all for your partnership and willingness to share outfits, resources and skills.

With the Olympics confirmed to be on the horizon - we look forward to an injection of Australian interest in the game overall. Hopefully with it, comes a new wave of orange, blue, red, black, yellow, green, red, purple and white playing tops in Victoria 🥍

The next lot of people on our thank you list is the zebra army!! Whether you donned the stripes as our club umpire or provided expertise, guidance and training as a Victorian Lacrosse Official on and off the field - we say THANK YOU!

To you VLO lot, we have so much gratitude to you for not only helping our club umps grow and feel more confident in their skills, but to also coming down on a Thursday night to tell us some of the changes to the rules. Your dedication and commitment to keeping clubs informed; and ensuring the game can be played safely, is beyond words.

With many changes to the club game schedule this year, we weren't sure how our championship team in particular would be affected; however with so much support from within our club and externally - we were able to keep our team alive! Special shout outs to Nick, Christine MB and Evelyn for helping out with umpiring this year.

To our club umpires that lent a hand in any of the leagues; we could not have had the year we had without you. Umping is no easy feat - and we had players, parents and partners step up to the plate and sacrifice their weekends all for the sake of our teams.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

And well done again Mark Griffiths for your award as Men's Official. So very deserved.

This week, we're shouting out some people and orga

This week, we're shouting out some people and organisations that we, as a club, are grateful for. To start with - it's the Brunswick Pride, which is a bit more of a vibe, but you get it 🌈

We are so so so incredibly lucky to be a club full of individuals that embraces each and every single member and supporter of our Orange, Navy and every other colour crew. We see this when our seniors get around our younger players, in the way parents welcome others into the fold and how our members keep on coming back. All of this and more was apparent at yesterday's @lacrosse.victoria and @proud2playinc Lacrosse Together tournament. Not only did we have junior and senior players get involved; supportive partners and parents who had never played lacrosse before hit the ground running in the name of pride. Our Family team even took the trophy home, and Orange just missed out in their division with a golden goal finale.

More important than the trophy was the absolute joy, encouragement and comradery every single Brunswick person had. And whilst some of that fun was being silly, getting dressed up (absolute hazards on the field sometimes) and playing the most serious 3v3 round against each other... if you asked any of our players what mattered - it all came down to supporting our LGBTQIA+ community, within our club and our lacrosse world.

Thank you to Renèe, Ellie, Jade, Kristen, LV's LGBT advisory board and every single person that made it the day it was! Let's continue to make this a space where everyone can fully be themselves

Whilst this weather makes us feel like field lax should be returning, today signifies something very exciting... the start of the box lacrosse season! Thanks @victoriaboxlacrosse for getting it going!

We've got Maverick representation across the leagues this year; and we are all looking forward to watching some of our championship players have a crack (hopefully not literally!). As you can see, the club has been so excited that we've even gotten our own unofficial stylish box jerseys.

This Sunday is the @lacrosse.victoria Together Cup

This Sunday is the @lacrosse.victoria Together Cup, which celebrates and aims to create a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community in the sports world. Our club is clearly keen to support this initiative, as we have entered three (that's right, three!) teams that are ready to rock, roll n rainbow in the cup.

One of these teams, fittingly named the Brunswick Mavericks, is comprised of junior players and family members who have just been waiting for their moment to get on the field! Keep an eye out for them as they make their debut.

Let's take a moment to appreciate our amazing Addy - who in her first year of playing lacrosse, not only stepped up to play seniors with the championship team but was also selected and absolutely rocked playing in the Victorian Sparks team!!

Addy was consistently a tour de force in defence with her speed and agility causing great difficulty for a lot of attacking players! Some of our championship team were also lucky enough to witness some Addy magic; with an absolutely brilliant assist from Addy last Friday. We're so lucky to have you don the orange Addy (as well as be your taste testers of amazing brownies)! Congratulations once again!

A big shout out to @tdob32 as well for supporting the tournament with getting some live streams going throughout the week, and president Anne for some of the snaps!

Wondering what to do with your Thursdays now we're in the off season for field lax?! Want to learn a new sport in the North, and make some new buds? Well we're here to help you get out and about - with our new spring lacrosse program starting this Thursday night!

Tell ya schools, and get ready to learn and/or perfecting some new sick skills all whilst having a blast. This program is for beginners and those already familiar to the game who are juniors aged 10-14. See ya there 🥍

Shout out to the last of our seasons trophy winners. Our Rhiain Barr winners might have had the most entertaining moment, with furry friends creating a ruckus during the presentation (see last photo as proof).

Congratulations everyone who was recognised for doing that bit extra for the club - whether it was changing it up on the field, behind the bar or donning the black and white stripes... your efforts made the season the success it was!

There were a few Brunswickian names scattered throughout Lacrosse Victoria's presentation night on Thursday. You know we loved hearing some of our Mavs get recognised for all their hard work.

A massive congratulations to Sam Boyd for winning Best and Fairest in the under 16s, Duncan Hillier for the co-Best and Fairest in Reserves and Mark Griffiths (Rich accepted the award on his behalf, 🦓 supporting 🦓 behaviour) for umpiring recognition on the men's side. Liv and Harry were also voted 5th and 4th overall in their respective leagues. HUGE.

The awards don't stop coming! After a season of significant change for our seniors men, our fellas hustled and both our reserves and state league team provided entertainment all season long.

In recognition of their efforts this season in the reserves, Luka was awarded with the coaches award, Duncan collected the player voted MVP and best and fairest, with Mark and Luke chasing his tail - and James, who stepped up massively this season got the most improved trophy.

For our state league folks, Harry got some new glassware and received the coaches award, Ben (not pictured) scored most improved, Merric got his name on the player voted MVP hardware and Tim picked up the best and fairest accolades with Josh getting runner up.

Congratulations and well done to every Mav who made it the year that it was! Special mentions to the leadership team that included Duncan, Symon, Mark, Tim and Richard. Onya!

Let's hear it for our Championship team again for the monumental year they had in the league. We suspect it's not the last time the team will be playing finals however this year certainly was the first. Put it in the lacrosse history timeline y'all!

Well done to everyone who was recognised this year for their efforts in the team. For those playing at home: Maddi cleaned up with MVP player voted and by the coach and spectators with Liv and Tash chasing her tail, Loula was recognised for her pivotal role in goals during the finals, Addy's leaps and bounds in lacrosse skill development (you can see this in action during the u15 tourney) got her the most improved trophy and Siobhan's presence and contributions led to her receiving the coaches award.

Liv has also *just* been announced as a finalist for best and fairest in the championship league - no surprises there after all her centre draw prowess.

Big thanks to coach Mike, assistant coach Aimee (their cat thanks you for the candle!), captain Tash and coordinator extrodinarre Renèe.

Juniors juniors juniors!

A huge well done to all our junior club winners announced this past Sunday. MVPS, best defenders, the most enthusiastic, (which was accepted with somehow even more enthusiasm!!) and even more awards were handed out to some very deserving players this year.

To celebrate this and the end of the season, check out some videos from the game of lacrosse between the parents and kids that took place. Umpires.. just avert your eyes at the legalities of it all, that's totally the right amount of people on the field!

Last Saturday our seniors went through their playe

Last Saturday our seniors went through their player votes MVPs for the season... and got a bit silly.

There were some close calls in the scoring, and a mixture of juniors and senior names that popped up a few times. Ultimately Duncan, Maddi and Merric took first place. A big well done for being voted MVP from your team members. Fantastic seasons all round!

The day continued to be colourful - with the annual calf competition collecting some new interest. This year, Tim Dobson's calves reign supreme (all hail the calves!).

Make sure to get on down tomorrow for our club presentation to see who else may receive some well deserved acclaim!
